The Fragrance Authority

I have been thinking of blogging for some time now.  I procrastinated as

I avoided EVERY writing class in the past!  Not because I wouldn’t like

to write, I just didn’t want to be graded!  So, here I am!

What makes me The Fragrance Authority?  It all started,

long ago, and far away!  I think one of my first memorable gifts was a

Tinkerbell cosmetic gift set when I was three!  I was hooked!  Not to mention

that I have an aunt eight years older than myself who had lots of fun things

to get into!  I remember getting into her Evening in Paris and a couple others.

The mix was NOT good!  LOL!

Also my grandmother was a Stanley dealer-not sure if everyone knows that

they had cosmetics, maybe fragrances, and I also had a great aunt who was

an Avon dealer.  So I had lots of playtime and samples of these lines.

I was hooked on the beauty industry at an early age!  Once I graduated from

college, I looked for a part-time job.  I found a fun position at an upscale mall

at an iNatural Store.  They had a “fragrance bar” which allowed you to mix

your own oils.  I had a great time suggesting mixes I had “created.”

From that experience, I was hired as an cosmetic  manager at a large

nationwide retailer.  I was there for about six years.  I really loved the trainings

and launches when new fragrances were introduced.  We had great information

about top, middle, and base notes.  During this time I was learning some of the

great fragrance combinations I heard about.

I left the cosmetic industry and started a business.  This kept me away for

awhile.  When I heard that Nordstrom was coming to my town, I applied.  I

remember telling them that I was quite capable in cosmetics, but I really wanted

to sell fragrances!  That came true!  While I was there I took the Fragrance Foundation

test and became a Certified Fragrance Sales Specialist with a perfect score.

That was a wonderful experience.  There were five of us tied for first place in the

competition to attend the FiFi award ceremony in NYC.  Undoubtedly, that would

have been an excellent experience!  BUT, the tie-breaker was to WRITE an essay.

You can guess the results!  LOL!  About 5 attempts at writing the perfect essay,

I submitted my best writing.  The winner wrote about Helen Keller and the effect

of scents and the senses.  I read it and agreed that she had an outstanding essay!

So, while I didn’t get to attend the Fifi Awards that year, the prizes were consoling!

=)

I will share some of my experiences here and my opinions of what is new and different

in the industry.  I have decided to share positive comments.  An organization in which I am

a member, CEO Space, asks members to “plus” each other when making comments.  We get

enough negativity in the world, and I don’t believe that every fragrance is created for

every person.  Someone out there will love the latest creations!  So until later, make it a

great day!
